RESUME ATTILA WITTMER (b. 1990)
Attila Wittmer is a Swiss artist whose practice is rooted in serial drawing processes structured through repetition and variation. Using the head as a recurring point of departure—reduced to a formal construct rather than a representational figure—he develops a visual language that operates within systems rather than singular images.
Wittmer’s work is not concerned with depiction but with the investigation of relationships. Lines, planes, and densities are methodically arranged to generate tensions between control and autonomy, allowing meaning to emerge across sequences rather than within isolated compositions. His drawings unfold as open systems, where repetition produces both precision and subtle displacement, shifting the focus from individual gesture to overarching structural coherence.
Working primarily in drawing, Wittmer places increasing emphasis on surface, material, and spatial context. Paper, support, and installation become active agents within the work, not merely carriers of image but co-determinants of form and perception. This expanded approach leads to installative constellations in which individual pieces interact, intensify, and inform one another, creating a dynamic field of visual and spatial dialogue.
His practice operates in a continuous negotiation between assertion and response—between deliberate formal decisions and the moment in which the material asserts its own agency. The result is a body of work that balances conceptual rigor with physical presence, inviting the viewer into a process of comparison, rhythm, and perceptual engagement over time.
